Certified Lactation Counselor

WIC breastfeeding peer counselors provide mother-to-mother support by offering encouragement, basic breastfeeding information, and practical help. These counselors are women who have successfully breastfed their own children and have received special training to assist other mothers with common breastfeeding questions, techniques, pumping, and returning to work or school. They are also trained to recognize when a mother needs help from a more specialized professional, like a lactation consultant, and can provide referrals.
